ARTIST STATEMENT:
Elizabeth McAlpin is an interdisciplinary artist working mainly in printmaking but also in ceramics, three-dimensional paper & plastics sculpture, works on paper and canvas. She uses various mediums including intaglio, drawing, painting, stencils, collagraphs, metal leaf, thread and found objects to form a visual narrative that expresses her values. Her work often addresses environmental issues, raising awareness and is informed by her academic history focused on environmental rights. Currently, she is working on a body of work titled Plastic Fossils but she also explores other topics.
BIO:
Born in NYC, she lives and works in Harlem. Her work was recently included in group exhibitions: Lush 2, Lighthouse Art Center, FL (2022), Art on the Ave, NYC (2022), Bound, Light Art Space, NM (2021) Ink, New Prints, Site Brooklyn Gallery, NY (2020); Pulling Prints, DVAA, NY (2020), and Solar Impressions Exhibition, Southampton Arts Center, NY (2019). She studied with many different instructors and mentors from various art institutions spanning several years including The Manhattan Graphic Center (NY), Lower East Side PrintShop (NY), Galisteo Street Studio (NM), Center for Contemporary Printmaking (CT), Tony Ryder Studio (NM), and Ted Jacobs (France). In addition she holds a B.A. in Philosophy, an MA in Educational Communication & Technology, an EdM in Instructional Design & Technology, and a PhD in Educational Communication & Technology. She also works as a researcher in education and technology at NYU.
