Based in New York, NY

ARTIST STATEMENT:

By using lace as a visual metaphor for a labyrinth of coalitions, Rebecca Darlington explores networks of living systems with her work.

For 25 years Darlington lived on the side of a mountain in the Hudson Valley. Her only neighbors were towering trees, herds of deer and spectacular seasons of color. The impression of that time and the link she formed with earth elements left a permanent imprint in the back of her vision field. Rebecca creates artworks with light, color and shapes of that prolific growth and beauty.

Using narrative patterns of figures and fauna she plays with plexiglass, oil sticks and collage using saturated color and any means of mixed media to create a sense of joy and belonging. Rebecca Darlington prefers to send a message that the world is teaming with expansive energy. It’s a feast and a bounty of unstoppable growth.

Since 2000 Rebecca has been involved with her studio work alongside a career in advertising. She has a BFA from the University of Georgia and additionally spent many wonderful semesters at The Woodstock School of Art. Rebecca has been a fellow at many artist residencies notably; VCCA in VA and FR and CAMAC in Champagne FR for 2 fellowships. From 2013-2015 she was a member of Gallery 66 NY in Cold Springs. In 2018 her Mobile of 200+ Figures hung at the Nashville airport in the Delta Atrium for a year.
