Based in New York City and in Kent, CT
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Stacy Bogdonoff is a mixed media artist making two-and-three-dimensional art, often using textiles and fiber, usually using unconventional processes and tools. All her work explores the theme of “Home, Safety, and Shelter” and how that changes as we age and move through life.
She maintains two studios: a small one on her NYC apartment dining room table and another larger, messier one in Kent, CT.
Bogdonoff works on several pieces at once, often in components, with traces and marks from earlier work appearing in totally different later pieces. She also works in series: ‘Landscapes I Have Known’, ‘Safe Shelters’, and ‘Hidden in the Lining’ are open-ended series that she’s working on.
Bogdonoff shows her art in juried or invitational shows in NYC, the Hudson Valley, and New England and was recently awarded a best in show at the BWAC (Brooklyn Waterfront Art Center) in Red Hook, NY. She also earned an honorable mention at the Stamford Art Association show mounted at the Ferguson Library in Stamford, CT.
She is a member of the TSGNY (Textile Study Group of NY), the NYAC (New York Artists Circle), and the NY and CT. SDA (Surface Design Association).
Bogdonoff is currently working on a solo show to be held at the St. Agnes branch of the NY Public Library in October 2023.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a mixed-media artist making two- and three-dimensional art, often using textiles and fiber. I work at the intersection of media, process, and concept. My process includes weaving, stitching, ripping, rending, burning, lashing, embroidery, folding/crushing/unfolding, scorching, and knotting. I weave off the loom, stretch netting over a rolling coatrack, and collect steel needles that are at least a foot long.
My materials include vintage industrial wire, stained craft paper, florist twine, minnow netting, reel-to-reel film and recording tape, silk embroidery floss, and wax undercoating used on cars. All my work, regardless of the media, process, or final form is centered around the theme of “Home, Safety, and Shelter” and how that morphs and changes as we age and move through life.
