August 28 - September 15, 2024 Gallery hours Wednesday through Sunday 1:00-6:00pm Opening Reception August 28th 6:00-9:00 pm
Art Lives Here is presenting an art fair just as the summer blends into fall. Art Lives Here: Collecting will be open before, during, and after Armory Week. The fair will feature the work of 52 contemporary artists. All are members of ALH’s growing community of artists from New York City, the U.S., London, Berlin and Buenos Aires.
Art Lives Here: Collecting is curated from the viewpoint of collecting contemporary art and building a collection over time. ALH founder and chief curator Connie Lee led the curatorial team of Alison Cuomo, Karen Fitzgerald and Jim Richards. Each of the 4 rooms at the iconic Westbeth Gallery are curated with a unique theme within the larger cohesive exhibition.
Main Gallery – Museum Ology
What might a permanent or private collection look like? The curatorial team imagined a collection that includes painting, sculpture, fiber arts and mixed media works that are presented in dialogue within this unique gallery setting.
Gallery 1- Wall to Wall
This Gallery is inspired by the interior design concept of more is more; floor to ceiling walls covered with framed works on paper, collage, portraits, drawings, unique prints, fine art photography, and abstract paintings.
Gallery 2 – On the Ballot
Artists are in the unique position of being able to visually express the concerns of many. They are exploring a range of issues from women’s rights, immigration and the environment. The artists are leading by example, it is not their intent to tell the viewer how to think, but to consider what the options are.
Gallery 3 – Art is an Object
Art is an object like any other object, except there is a profound emotional connection. This room is filled with sculptures on pedestals and mounted on the walls. The hand of the artist is visible in each piece, which elevates the object and the materials used to create it.
