HOLLY DALE SHAPIRO

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Holly Dale Shapiro is a collage artist. Her work is focused on sarcasm, and creating with humor.

Her workspace is small, and therefore has limited the size of her work, non larger than 24" x 36".

Holly-Dale Shapiro spent most of her career designing commercial products and graphic design. Until 4 years ago she rarely had time for her art practice and has become a full time committed artist.

Holly likes being a quirky story teller. Her recent work falls into social commentary and sarcasm. She has been an observer her entire life and now she uses it in her art as commentary. Distorting concepts falls into Holly's wheelhouse. She puts twists in titles making subjects into acerbic remarks. She makes series with similar visual content expressing irony and humor. Often the viewer needs to take a second look to see what's up. Her work is meant to hit the viewer's sensibilities funny bone and tickle their serious art discipline. Some work is dark and debilitating often she is making a bizarre fashion statement. She uses irony to mock or convey contempt. Life is too short not to laugh ever chance one gets.
