ARTIST STATEMENT:

Jim Richards is a Photographer, sculptor, and papermaker.  Seeking what inspires a sense of wonder. He incorporates visual ideas into concepts, objects and experiences that resonate with meaning. Image making for the artist includes careful consideration of how things are presented, which brings into play a sculptural element. It is equally important to the artist that he makes work that is accessible.

Bio:

Jim Richards earned a BS in Business Economics from Fordham University at Rose Hill, Bronx, NY. A film comedy class at the end of senior year inspired a 35-year career in the film industry, and quite a few experimental animated super-8 films, which distilled into making many thousands of photographic images, which began to include a physical, sculptural character with the help of clay sculpture classes at The Arts Student League, NYC, classes in alternative photographic processes, wood- and metal-working at The Penland School of Crafts in Penland, NC, and two 3D sculptural papermaking classes at The Women’s Studio Workshop in Rosendale, NY.  Jim has had several solo exhibitions in NYC, including at Gala Arts Center in College Point and The Gallery at 310 Riverside Drive in Manhattan, where he also serves as a curator. He continues to show his work extensively in group shows around the US.
